This tool presents a systematic, requirement-level comparison of three major Digital Product Passport frameworks: the EU DPP mandated under the ESPR, the DPP 4.0 based on the Asset Administration Shell (IEC 63278), and the UNTP DPP specified by UN/CEFACT. The comparison covers 105 data requirements (40 EU, 33 DPP 4.0, 32 UNTP) mapped across 33 cross-framework concepts.
EU DPP
CEN/CENELECRegulatory DPP under ESPR Regulation (EU) 2024/1781. Mandates product-level sustainability and lifecycle data for the EU single market.
DPP 4.0
IDTA / ZVEIIndustry 4.0 DPP based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). Modular submodel architecture for industrial interoperability and digital twins.
UNTP DPP
UN/CEFACTGlobal supply chain transparency protocol using W3C Verifiable Credentials. Lightweight, claim-based architecture (v0.7.0).

What does * mean?
Ten DPP 4.0 requirements (Material Composition, Circular Economy, Supply Chain) are marked with * because they come from author-constructed submodels — no published IDTA Submodel Template exists for these domains yet. They were included because the ESPR requires data on material composition, circularity metrics, and supply chain traceability, and both the EU DPP and UNTP DPP already address these concepts. Excluding them would make the cross-framework comparison incomplete, since the DPP 4.0 initiative intends to cover these categories. Their mandatory/optional flags are author assessments based on DPP 4.0 working group outputs, not specification-level cardinalities.

Based on the publication work in progress: “A Comparative Analysis of Digital Product Passport Frameworks: EU DPP, AAS-Based DPP 4.0, and UNTP DPP”. The EU DPP extraction follows the JRC DPP data specification methodology (JRC145830). The UNTP DPP extraction is based on the v0.7.0-rc6 JSON Schema.
